Alan G. Dickson

Alan G. Dickson, 73, of Snohomish passed away December 12th surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Alan was born in Niles, Michigan on November 24, 1943, to Raymond Dickson and Ruth Pinnick Dickson. He spent most of his early years in Mishawaka, Indiana, where he graduated from Mishawaka High School. It was there that his love of high school sports began. He attended Butler University, playing both football and basketball on a full athletic scholarship. Alan met his wife Chris at Butler. After they were married, he finished his education at Bethel College, where he also played basketball and graduated with a teaching degree.

Alan’s love for teaching and coaching spanned over 40 years of his lifetime in three different states. He began teaching in Michigan, moved to Illinois, and finally on to Monroe, Washington, where he taught and coached for over 20 years. He loved teaching, but his first love was his years coaching girls’ basketball. His love of the game and passion for helping players achieve their very best was benefited by the programs at Monroe, Cedar Park Christian, Bear Creek, and Manson. Alan’s love for his students, players, and fellow teachers was obvious to all who knew him. Alan’s love for God was very real, and he never once complained during the 13 years of his battle with cancer. His courage was an inspiration to all.

Alan was preceded in death by his grandchild Cody. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Chris, three sons, Matthew (Kristina), Marc (Jennifer), Eric, and his three daughters, Melissa (Todd), Allison, and Brittany (Jeff). Alan is also survived by his 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild, his sisters Patricia, Sharon, Joan, and Barbara.

Alan’s funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at Cedar Park Church, 16300 112th Avenue NE, Bothell, WA 98011. Arrangements under the care of Chapel of the Resurrection Funeral Home.
